Cossington Concerts at Millfield Case Study

Partnership working brings one of the world's top cellists to Millfield.

Cossington Concerts, an organisation which was founded by the internationally acclaimed Mozart scholar and Times music critic Stanley Sadie CBE, recently collaborated with Millfield School as part of a strategy designed to bring top quality professional artists to a wider audience by collaborating with other local organisations.

A master class and recital by the world renowned cellist Steven Isserlis was hosted by Millfield School in its brand new, state-of-the-art concert hall. Sue, who manages PR for Cossington Concerts, was quick to recognise the potential of such a partnership, particularly if the master class were to involve talented young students from both the independent and maintained school sectors.

Outcomes/Benefits

As predicted, substantial media interest was generated in the master class for the young, local cellists:

  • All three were invited to speak and play on BBC Somerset Sound, and BBC Radio Bristol.
  • They were also featured in editorial in both the regional and local press, which highlighted not only the master class and concert but also Millfield opening its doors to the local community.
